Veronica Iacovacci, assistant professor at The BioRobotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, won the Big-on-Small Award. The award was established in 2016 during the MARSS international conference to promote the best research activities related to the field of manipulation, automation and robotics at small-scale.

Microrobotics in the medical field

Veronica Iacovacci was honoured for her research activities in the field of microrobotics in the medical field. Her studies focus on the develoment medical microrobots and fully implantable devices. Specifically, Iacovacci has worked on implantable microrobots that can navigate inside the human body and release drugs in a controlled manner into tissues and areas of pathology.
In addition to numerous scientific publications, Iacovacci coordinated the EU-funded Marie-Curie Mambo (Magnetic swArms for liver chemoeMBOlization) project for the development of magnetic micro-robots for localised therapies inside the human body.
